Moblin 2.1 is intended as a review of the version for developers. This version presents a number of user interface and software improvements, so according to Linux Foundation which manages the development for this operating system that was born of intelligence. This OS is very supportive for multimedia. Once removed from the box, the device will be able to show moblin video in proprietary formats Flash and Silverlight. Moblin 2.1 was first announced at the Intel Developer Forum event in San Francisco last September as an upgrade from Moblin 2.0. Moblin originally developed and pushed by Intel as an operating system for the netbook. But with Moblin 2.1, Intel is developing the OS to the desktop and handheld devices driven by Atom processor.
“Moblin v2.1 release will be the development of the Moblin groove v2.0 and future releases to add features and new developments, such as Web sites mentioned on Moblin. Initial release is only aimed at netbook, but a version for handheld devices such as mobile Internet devices will conform to the availability and the release of the hardware platform.
Unfortunately Moblin for nettop is not available yet for download. But this OS already includes
support for the resolution of the display nettop yet. Screen netbook generally ranges from 7 “- 12″, while the netbook can connect to the screens bigger.
New applications in Moblin 2.1, called Moblin Garage and Moblin Application Installer, allowing users to download, install, or remove software. OS improves 3G data support for mobile broadband, and Bluetooth support also provides a better way. OS has the language support and update Linux kernel better.
Moblin 2.1 platform also includes support PineTrail, Intel’s upcoming platform for the netbook. Pine Trail to integrate graphics processors in the Atom CPU, and PineTrail estimated based netbooks come early next year.
Developer preview version is usually released to identify and remove bugs. These releases allow programmers to develop software for the OS. Availability Moblin 2.1 in a broader scale scheduled in the fourth quarter.
Moblin has used the netbook, among others, Acer Aspire One, Asus Eee PC and Dell Mini, for
test his OS. Intel officials told that has worked with hardware companies to add hardware compatibility even to the OS. On September24th, Dell began offering a version of Moblin in Inspiron Mini netbook.
