Simple Nonfiction Articles Writing Tips
Writing nonfiction articles is much easier than fiction (short stories, novels, etc.). Tip basically quite simple. We just need a “basic materials” as follows:
1. Ideas
2. Think systematic
3. Data (this is relative, because there are also articles that can be written without having to search for data)
4. Focus on the problem. Do not like to expand the topic everywhere.
5. One paragraph = one idea.
If these five points we already have, then God willing nonfiction writing can be a very easy for more details job, let us learn this simple example.
1. Ideas
The idea that there is everywhere. This time, we take the example of a simple idea, namely: “I want to read lots of books, but I do not have the time and no money to buy books a lot.”
Well, this is a pretty good idea and we can lift to writing. Within this idea there is a problem that we can develop later.
2. Thinking systematically
after his idea met, it is time we think systematically. In my opinion, this systematic thinking is very important. One of the failures of the writers is: they are not used to think systematically. As a result, they have an idea, but confused where to start, develop lot of way, and so on. Therefore, if we want to be a successful nonfiction writer, try to start practicing systematic thinking. Once there is an idea, we analyze, point by point, step by step.
From the example above, let us try to develop on the basis of systematic thinking:
1. I think that reading is very important. Therefore, I have read lots of books.
2. Obstacle # 01: I do not have a lot of time. I’m not busy, a lot of work, etc. …
3. Obstacle # 02: My Money is limited, so I can not buy a lot of books.
4. Alternative solutions:
o lending in the library.
o Borrow books to friends. Extend the association so that more and more friends who can lend books.
o Reading while in transit.
o Reading between the office duties.
o Often browsing on the Internet.
o And so on.
5. Discussion of “alternative solutions”:
o About borrowed at the library: Oh, no! I also do not have time to borrow to the library. Besides, I often have not read the book, when it was time returned again.
o About to borrow a friend: well, my little friend.
o And so on …
6. Solving the problem overall.
7. Conclusion
Well, from the systematic thinking system, we have found the outline. Yes, the framework of this essay is very important, because from here we can develop writing. Framework of this paper we write on paper, or simply stored in your head. Whatever we choose which, depending on the habits and abilities of each.
3. Data
It would be nice if we complete this paper with supporting data. For example: how many books I have had, how much the average price of books. Of the total income I, how many dollars can I set aside to buy the book. And so on. These data will make our writing more “rich”.
4. Focus. Do not widen the topic
Well, this is a problem that we often do not realize when writing. Therefore, we feel that what we write is still in touch with the main theme, when in fact little to do, and do not need to be discussed.
For example like this:
When writing about the ideas above (my problem in reading the book), we unconsciously speaks of “a movement that proclaimed avid reader of government.” We describe this theme at length, plus a variety of supporting data.
Well, if this theme is discussed briefly, might not be ok, because it can be reinforcing our argument that reading is indeed very important. And indeed, the theme of “reading movement” is still closely related to the idea that we’re writing. The problem is, if we begin to discuss the theme of this extra length, our writing becomes the focus again. Inside there were two major themes that are equally strong. And the reader will be confused, “the author is actually discussing what the fuck?”
. 5. One idea in one paragraph / paragraphs
This actually we all know, because it was taught in Indonesian lessons since elementary school. But maybe we’ve forgotten or less used to it.
To be a good writer, obey the principle of “one idea of a paragraph” is very important, and really helps us to focus on writing the main idea, to create a systematic writing. If we violate this principle, the idea could be jumping from there to here. Idea A has been discussed in paragraph 1, discussed again in paragraph 7. B discussed the idea with the idea of an in paragraph 1, and the idea of B appears again in paragraph 9. And so on. Not so confusing read!
To make writing obeys the formula “one paragraph = one idea”, is actually very easy, and we’ve also got the Indonesian lessons when junior school first. Here’s how: Make a sentence as the main sentence. Then make any other sentences as an explanation or development of this basic sentence.
Example:
Reading books is the work required for each author. Without reading, writing they would be dry, not rich because of poor references. The more books read, the more the material or ideas obtained by the author.
Basic sentence in the above paragraph is “Reading books are a must for every working writer.” The rest is just an explanation or development.
Here is a sample paragraph that bad because in it there is more than one idea.
Reading books is the work required for each author. Anyway the writers should be smart for searching inspiration. Inspirations can come from anywhere. In reading, the author will get a lot of inspiration. If you’re stuck inspiration, try discussing with your friends.
Let your attention. This paragraph is not focused on one idea, and feels like a written long summary. Avoid writing techniques such
